Con Mi MADRE Opens Doors to New Home

With fresh paint, shiny new computers, and familiar faces, Con Mi MADRE welcomes the community into our new home and technology center. We hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, July 15th and shared this special occasion with Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Council Member Delia Garza, Google representatives, and the amazing people who are a part of this organization and community.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was officiated by our Executive Director, Dr. Teresa Granillo and one of our mother – daughter teams shared how this new technology center will personally impact them. Once our doors were officially open to the community, the attendees were free to mingle and tour our new offices, as well as enjoy some delicious breakfast tacos from Serranos, sip on Starbucks coffee, and indulge in Panera pastries.

After becoming acquainted with the technology center, mothers and daughters participated in a coding class led by Google reps in our technology center. “This tech lab will provide a space for young Latinas and their mothers to learn, grow and inspire other members of the Austin community,” says Gerardo Interiano, head of external affairs for Google’s southwest region.

This coding class was a first glimpse of the tech access Con Mi MADRE aims to offer our mother and daughter teams. With this technology center, we provide the platform for mothers and daughters to develop skills that will enable more opportunities for them both. Mothers will have the tools to understand the online culture in order to better relate to their daughters, while their daughters will have the capabilities to apply to universities, financial aid and scholarships. Our hope is that both will have access to further their knowledge of technology.

Not only will the new Con Mi MADRE offices be a place for learning, this will be a space that the mother and daughters can call “home.”
